When Trouble Shooting simple devices it is important to remember the purpose of the device. In this case the flexible copper connections that let the electrodes move can be troublesome. Here is some basic information about these devices that should help.
All of these are custom devices and once they are ordered you own them. There are no standards. They should be designed to last 5 to 10 years but some will only last around 4 months. They all need to be sized for the amps and duty cycle for the specific application.
When replacing do not get finger prints or other oils on the connecting surfaces. This contamination will shorten the life greatly. Use a very light coating of SS-30 to help with conductivity and preservation. When a shunt or jumper cable is 80% worn through order the replacement so you have it when it gets down to 50% and replace it then. This should help keep from having to turn up the % heat settings beyond the max of the machine.
