Spot Welding Support FAQs for Spot Welding Page

How can we get a fast answer on our problem?

Call us at 317-251-9406. Ask for welding engineering support. You can also e-mail us at rwesco01@rwesco.com and we will get you a reply within twenty-four hours. If you need on-site support -- -- the faster you fax us your PO number the faster we show up.

What eletrode is the best for galvanized or galvanealed steel?

This depends on the size of the nugget required and machine cooling capacity. Most common class two electrodes will work just fine. The best is typically DSC or Dispersion Strengthend Copper.

Why is my weld weak?

It could be many reasons. Try turning up the weld tap switch one or two notches or the current by about five percent heat.

What can I do to get rid of sparks and spatter?

Sparks and spatter might be a good thing depending upon the application. For projections or cross wire welding this is normally the case. If there is arcing like noise at the begining of the weld turn up squeeze time five cycles.

What settings should I use?

Use the highest current and lowest time to make the spot weld. Refer to typical weld parameters charts and tables as the starting point for your specific weld schedule questions.

What is the best book for spot welding?

The best, most complete book is the RWMA manual. (Yes we do sell these.)

What could be the problem with my plated nuts?

The plating is normally a yellow di-chromate coating. If this gets too thick it will be difficult to weld. Higher tap settings should help. Use class two electrode materials next.

Is the electrode taper and eletrode size number the same thing?

Yes.

How long does it take to make a weld?

From initiation to end of hold is normally less than one second. The biggest time is loading and unloading of your parts.

What is MFDC?

Mid Frequency Direct Current. It is a combination of Transformer and Controller/Timer that uses three phases. AKA Inverter Technology.

Is MFDC better?

Yes but the cost of the equipment is also much more. It might be justifiable when all of the conditions are carefully evaluated.
